Protection visa (subclass 866)
Protection visa (subclass 866) can be granted to individuals who found to engage Australia’s protection obligations. Either one must be a refugee as defined by the Migration Act 1958 or meet the corresponding protection criteria in the Migration Act 1958. You might also be eligible for a subclass 866 visa if you are the family member of a person found to engage Australia's protection obligations.
Things to know before you apply
- You and any eligible family members must be present in Australia, while applying for a Protection visa.
- The Protection visa (subclass 866) is a permanent visa.
- Subclass 866 visa allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident
- You have access to Medicare and Centrelink services.
